
John Frierson Obituary, Death – A memorial service for John Bolinger Frierson will be held at 2 p.m. on October 21, 2023, in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, located at 900 Jordan Street. John, born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on March 17, 1953, passed away in his home on October 17, 2023. Preceding him in death were his parents, Betty Basinger Frierson and Clarence Nicholson Frierson, and his brother, Clarence Nicholson “Tannie” Frierson, Jr.
Survived by his wife of 39 years, Christy, John is also remembered by his children, Trenton Holt Frierson and fiancée Maddie Dupuy, John Bolinger Frierson, Jr. and wife Adrienne, and Jennifer Grace Frierson Couhig and husband Ben, along with his grandchildren, Lillie Monroe and Audrey Marie Frierson, Amelie Phelps, Paul Bolinger, Anna-Clarence Basinger Frierson, and Corbin John Couhig. He is further survived by his brothers, George Archer Frierson, II, and Christian Basinger Frierson, and their families.
Hailing from a long line of the Frierson family who settled in Caddo and DeSoto Parishes in the mid-1840s, John was the fifth generation to cultivate cotton on the family’s “The Place” plantation. After graduating from Captain Shreve High School in 1971, where he played football, John earned a degree in agriculture business from Louisiana State University in 1975, eventually returning to the family farm.
Active in his community, John served his church diligently, touching many lives through various roles, reflecting his strong faith and values. Remembered for his kindness, devotion to family, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, John’s legacy lives on through the impact he had on those around him. Contributions in his memory can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport or other institutions dedicated to serving God’s loving purposes.
